January Luncheon – Wed., Jan. 20, 2016

January 20, 2016
Mandarin Gourmet

President Dan Judnick welcomed everyone. There were 28 members present.

The lunch served was delicious as usual.

Dan then introduced our speaker Nick Taylor is a professor at San Jose State University. He teaches creative writing and is the director of the John Steinbeck Center at the university. He spoke of the John Steinbeck award and who it’s going to this year. Ruby Bridges, who integrated an elementary school in New Orleans in 1960. Nick told us about his upbringing and about his schooling. He also talked about the novels he has written, including a series about a baseball player/private investigator set in the San Jose area. He was a very enjoyable speaker to listen to. He also sold several books after the meeting.

Dan then reiterated that our barbecue in June would be our last meeting/luncheon unless some people step up to take over the Board. He spoke of options to consider. A one year hiatus or complete shut down of the organization. He also suggested thinking of options for the remaining bank balance.

Dan then called the names for the raffle. Adjournment.
Respectfully submitted,
Carole Naucke
